Anthro Bat (Microchiroptera) Anatomy by Taqresu650 Anthro Bat (Microchiroptera) Anatomy by Taqresu650
Anthro characters are all around. You know this and I know this. But in creating my own, I want to go for biological accuracy (It's alright if you do or don't, this is just what I prefer in mine). This concept is to theorize a possible mix between the anatomy of humans at bats as seen through muscle structures. Where the two overlap, I made the human anatomy with pencil and the bat's with red color pencil. You won't see as much of the human anatomy (I drew that first), but you can at least see where I was going with this. My model was somewhat general on Micro-chiroptera bats (bats that are nocturnal insectivores and much smaller than Macro-chiroptera like flying foxes). In this I made 4 forelimbs, the two humanoid arms, and the wings. I very well could have the wings and the arms the same, but wanted more tactile functions for my character.
The biggest change lies within the torso and the extra limbs for the wings. unlike birds, Bats don't have a keel bone supporting the massive muscle structure the wings need for flight. If I recall, the muscles anchor each other. Keeping humanoid arms makes this really hard to work with. So I actually added layers of muscle over the muscles normally needed for arms. And I had those layers kind of wrap around the shoulder to reach the wings on the back. And to keep the human functionality of the feet, I connected the wing membranes directly to the tail (which really depends on the bat species you use). I know this isn't anatomically correct, but I wanted to keep more the human aspects. The feet themselves still serve the function for hanging upside down. I didn't go specifically into the hands, feet, or head (which will all more closely resemble bat anatomy).
And again this is concept art. It's not set in stone, but I will use it as reference for my future anthro bat character. Of course this can also work for characters like Man-bat from the DC universe.

Thanks for the compliment and the fave. :) I'm still trying to work on a realistic anthro bat. I have a species of bat in mind (which is important because of the wide variety of bats).
